We've Visited.

Notice. Care. Give.

Brookfield Academy, Troy, MI, February 2026
24 students, Preschool and lower elementary

After the read-aloud, kids lined up for a book signing and started asking questions I wasn't expecting. Why noticing matters, and how they could actually learn to do it.

The book sparked a conversation about what giving really means. Kids wanted to know. That's always the moment I'm looking for.

What I Bring

PreK through Grade 2
I lead a live read-aloud of I Can Give. We talk about noticing the person right next to you. Kids share what they notice and leave with something to think about. Free. 20-30 minutes. I lead it myself. A teacher or staff member is present at all times. I leave a copy of the book and optional discussion prompts so the conversation can continue.

Grades 3 through 5
I share how Bag of Joy started and we discover what each kid notices and cares about. Animals, the elderly, the environment, kids who don't have enough. Every kid has something. This visit helps them find it. Free. 30-40 minutes. I lead it myself. A teacher or staff member is present at all times.

Read-Aloud at Schools and Classrooms
Author-Led, In-Person Read-Aloud

I share I Can Give with schools, daycares, and early elementary classrooms through author-led, in-person read-alongs focused on shared reading and thoughtful discussion. During each visit, I read the book aloud and invite children to talk about noticing others and choosing kind actions in small, everyday ways.

Read-Aloud are calm, interactive, and age-appropriate, and typically last 20–30 minutes, making them easy to fit into classroom or daycare schedules. I use simple discussion prompts to help children connect the story to their own experiences.

Read-Aloud are offered at no cost. After each visit, I leave a copy of the book and a few optional discussion prompts so the conversation can continue.
